Most of Yutta Saftien´s installations are developed for public spaces.

They are social sculptures.

Especially the Greenys (from 2003 on) are installations and actions, which are not ready the moment they enter the public space. Observers and passersby can become an activ part of the growing process of the artwork.

2. Conception of "Between You and Me", Hamburg, Museum of Labour, 1999

The Installation in the Museum of Labour in Hamburg was Yutta Saftiens statement to questions about childhood, a theme which has been subject of several of her paintings before. Part I : Three oversized toys, a teddy, a rabbit and a dug, were hanging down from the ceiling of the exhibition hall. Each of them had mirror-eyes and a skin covered with material from magazines, which is not `suitable´ to the image of an innocent childhood: Childreen and violence ( rabbit-skin ), childreen as a target of commerce ( teddy-skin), global contrast between childreen ( dug-skin ). an adult could look at them eye to eye. Additionaly there was an oversized pacifier. He was covered with material concerning childreen as a subject of sience. Part II : The second part of the installation were seven white childreen store window puppets, fixed at a fence on the backside of the exhibition hall. Between them, in the middle, there was placed a television screen, on which a very quick zapping through the daily television programm was running.
